This 10-day comprehensive Northern Loop itinerary is optimized for an Easy Rider motorbike tour. It systematically covers the dramatic transformation from the sheer clay canyons of Ha Giang to the towering limestone monoliths of Cao Bang and the serene waters of Ba Be lakes
Day 1: Sapa to Bac Ha ( L , D )
  • Riding Distance: ~100 km
  • Highlights: Leaving Sapa, you will descend into Lao Cai city, tracing the Chinese border. The road climbs steeply again into the highlands of Bac Ha, which is famous for its rolling hills and fruit orchards.
  • Evening: Overnight in a traditional homestay or local hotel in Bac Ha town. Try Thang Co (traditional soup) if you feel adventurous. 
Day 2: Bac Ha to Hoang Su Phi ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: ~120 km
  • Highlights: Traverse the rugged border roads via Xin Man and Coc Pai. This route is an off-the-beaten-path mountain track with sharp turns and sheer drop-offs. It delivers you straight into the jaw-dropping National Heritage rice terraces of Hoang Su Phi.
  • Evening: Stay in an eco-lodge or local homestay in Nam Hong village, surrounded by the bamboo forests of the Red Dao people. 
Day 3: Hoang Su Phi to Ha Giang City ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: ~100 km
  • Highlights: Wind down the mountain pass along the DT177 road, catching views of the Chay River massif. You will join National Highway QL2 and arrive at Ha Giang City, the official starting milestone (KM 0) of the Ha Giang Loop.
  • Evening: Relax at Homestay bungalow in Ha Giang City to rest up before hitting the high rocky passes the next day.
Day 4: Ha Giang City to Dong Van via Quan Ba & Yen Minh ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: ~140 km
  • Highlights: Ascend the steep mountain road to the Quan Ba Heaven Gate to look over the Twin Mountains. Ride across the pine forests of Yen Minh before entering the breathtaking Dong Van Karst Plateau Geo-Park. Stop at the historic Hmong King's Palace (Dinh Vua Meo) along the way.
  • Evening: Explore the ancient mud-brick houses of Dong Van Old Quarter and stay in a local guesthouse. 
Day 5: Dong Van to Meo Vac to Bao Lac ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: ~110 km
  • Highlights: Conquer the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, widely considered the most spectacular road in Vietnam. Ride down the steep switchbacks to the emerald Nho Que River for a brief boat canyon tour. Continue past Meo Vac along deep river valleys into Bao Lac district.
  • Evening: Stay in Bao Lac town, a quiet hub home to the Black Lolo minority group.
Day 6: Bao Lac to Khau Coc Cha Pass to Pac Bo Cave ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: ~130 km
  • Highlights: Ride from Bao Lac toward Xuan Truong to ride up the iconic Khau Coc Cha Pass. It is a vertical 2.5 km cliff face managed by 15 steep tiers of switchbacks. Park at the top and hike 1 km through the woods to reach the panoramic cliffside viewpoint. Head northeast along the frontier road to Pac Bo Cave (Bac Bo Cave). This is the pristine, historic site where Ho Chi Minh returned to Vietnam in 1941. Walk alongside the crystal-clear Lenin Stream.
  • Evening: Stay at Me bungalow a comfortable lodging and sample local roasted duck.
Day 7: Pac Bo to Ban Gioc Waterfall ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: ~90 km
  • Highlights: Head east through the stunning karst valleys of Trung Khanh district. Arrive at Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the most majestic international border waterfalls in the world, sitting right on the frontier with China. Take a bamboo raft right up to the roaring mist of the falls. Nearby, explore the cavernous interior of Nguom Ngao Cave.
  • Evening: Stay at a local homestay in the nearby stone village of Khuoi Ky.
Day 8: Ban Gioc Waterfall to Ba Be Lake ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: ~210 km
  • Highlights: This is a long but highly rewarding transition day. Travel southwest through Cao Bang's mountain gaps, dropping down into Bac Kan province. The rocky crags give way to the thick green jungles of Ba Be National Park.
  • Evening: Unwind in a lakeside stilt house homestay run by the Tay minority in Pac Ngoi village.
Day 9: Ba Be Lake Exploration ( B, L, D )
  • Riding Distance: Minimal (Boat-based day)
  • Highlights: Give your motorbike a break. Spend the morning taking a relaxing boat tour across Ba Be Lake. Cruise through the dramatic Ba Hoa temple, Dau Dang waterfalls float down the Nang River, swmimming and spot local fishermen handling traditional dug-out canoes.
  • Evening: Enjoy a home-cooked dinner featuring fresh lake fish at your homestay
Day 10: Ba Be Lake to Hanoi ( B, L )
  • Riding Distance: ~220 km
  • Highlights: Your final ride takes you out of the national park, southward via Cho Moi on National Highway QL3. The tight mountain passes slowly flatten out into the wide, busy plains of the Red River Delta as you complete the grand loop back into Hanoi.
